We are looking for a few volunteers to help direct traffic from around 7pm until the lights go off.  We have (1) officer on duty and need to assist him/her as we have successfully done the past few nights.  Thanks to Angela, Jasmine, Harland, Moira, Andrew and Catherine who helped out on Christmas Eve and Christmas night.  Angela and Jasmine handed out almost 1000 Candy Canes and kept the visitors informed.

We plan to keep the lights running until January 5, 2007 and are looking for volunteers to assist until then.  We’re looking for responsible Adults (18 & older) who are competent of directing traffic for up to 5 hours a night.  If you think you can be of assistance, please contact us via email.  With your help, we can keep the show running until Jan. 5!

Thank you!

Merry Christmas everyone!

A quick note on traffic:

Since the York Regional Police couldn’t follow through with what was agreed to be regular “traffic control” we’ve had to hire a police officer to do just that.  Therefore, a police officer will be on traffic control duty from 7pm until the lights go off.  This will be on a daily basis until the traffic dies down.  As of last night, some people had to wait up to 45 minutes to get their car into the court….if you’d like to avoid this delay, park far away and walk in.

When walking to the display, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep off the neighbours’ properties.  This has been a very mild month and the grass is soft, making it vulnerable to damage due to pedestrian traffic.  Please remember that our neighbours must endure A LOT during this month and we appreciate their cooperation and support.  Help us keep the display going by adhering to the above requests.

Thank you, and Happy Holidays!

For those who don’t like the music this year and don’t think it has anything to do with Christmas, you’re right.  “Greensleeves” and “Wizards in Winter” are NOT Xmas songs either, meaning this year is no different than the rest.  We design these light shows to be original and fun to watch.   Yes we could have chosen other TSO (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) Christmas songs, but these have been used in light shows across the world many times before.  If we did this, we’d be receiving emails accusing us of copying other displays.

This is a light show for everyone to enjoy, regardless of belief/religion, etc.  Please don’t post complaints about this year’s choice of music as they will no longer be approved on this blog.  Rather than list complaints, please list suggestions as to what music you think would be suitable for future displays.

This year’s new sequence consists of 2 songs, fused together.  They are “Final Countdown” by “Europe”, and “Wish Liszt (Toy Shop Madness)” by Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Happy Holidays!

Ok…so we were about 3 hours past our deadline, but finally got the Videos posted on the site.  Slobodan spent a fair amount of time editing the new 2006 sequence video and we thank him for that.  We will complete the videos page later today.  Check out the videos here:

Some of you may be wondering why the lights were on until about 4am this morning.  This is because we spent more than 3-1/2 hours shooting video footage of the display.  For best results  we had to do this when there was no traffic which is why it was done early in the morning.

We also had the opportunity to fly around the house in Cessna, thanks to Lind Nyman.  We took some footage from the sky and hope to get some of that on the website soon. It was a beautiful night for flying!

Thanks to Slobodan and Hus for helping video the show. The footage is now in Slobodan’s hands as he’s now putting the 3 hours of footage together to make a 3 minute video.

We launched the new sequence last night and are still tweaking it.  It will be finalized by tomorrow night.  This means we can finally take video of the display, which we’ll be doing this weekend. We’ll have at least (3) videos posted early next week, so hang on….we’re working on it!

This is probably the busiest week we’ve experienced so far and we want to remind everyone that stopping by during the week is a great time to check out the lights.  There is a lot of congestion on Fri/Sat/Sun so please be patient and courteous to others and most of all, drive safe!!!!  We want to keep this a pleasurable experience for everyone!

See you soon!

It’s been a while since our last update, because we’ve been extremely busy programming this latest sequence.  It proved to be the most difficult to make so far as we probably invested around 60 hours on this piece.  It’s less than 3 minutes, programmed in 4ms intervals and consists of more than 360 channels.  Thanks to Jasmine for helping out during these long hours.

We intended on launching it yesterday, but when doing so, found our old PC couldn’t handle it.  So we upgraded the PC which also means the “glitching”, that was once evident, will now be history.

The videos will be recorded before the weekend and should be posted before Monday.  Rogers Local shot a short piece last night for their local news which will air today at 6pm.  The Citytv/CP24 news story that aired last Friday will be posted on our site early next week.  Here’s a link to a short clip of the story:

Turn out has been incredible so far which has us thinking about the coming weeks….wondering if it will be too busy???  Fri/Sat/Sun are packed, so we advise coming during the weekdays to avoid some of that traffic (though it’s still reasonably busy during the week).  Please please please don’t block the neighbours’ driveways.  We’re lucky they support us and would like to keep it that way.  Thanks!

Enjoy!

Last night, into the early hours of this morning, Janssen and myself spent a few hours taking pictures of this year’s lights.  Out of 120 pictures taken, we’ve posted the 20 best on our pictures page.  Because there are so many colours, it’s best not to turn all the lights on at once, or it looks really messy.  These pictures were taken when the display was “static” which is why they were taken early in the morning (so we didn’t have to disrupt the daily sequences).  Thanks Janssen for you help!

Take a look at the pics here:

We’ve completed the narrative sequence and will be launching that today..so we’ll now have 2 sequences running.  Again, our apologies to those who’ve emailed us and haven’t yet heard back.  We’ve been spending so much time on the lights & programming, we haven’t had the chance to respond.

We’re now working on the new musical sequence, which will be the best yet.  Stay tuned for it’s release date!

Please note our new hours (changed slightly from last year):  5:15pm to 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and 5:15pm until Midnight Friday/Saturday.

Please try not to block our neighbours’ driveways when visiting.  Thanks!
